Three VVM publications on International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems

From Sunday, 19th September, to the 22nd September, the 24th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC2021) will be held in Indianapolis as a hybrid event. As the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society, it focuses on presenting new developments in theory, simulation and modeling, experimentation, advanced deployment and case studies in the field of Intelligent Transportation.

This year, the VVM project succeeded in publishing three papers in the course of the conference. The first publication “Towards Serious Perception Sensor Simulation for Safety Validation of Automated Driving - A Collaborative Method to Specify Sensor Models“ provides a method to specify sensor models for the environmental perception of automated driving systems. The key of the approach is a collaborative collection of cause-effect chains as the basis for specification. The second publication “Benchmark for Spray from Nearby Cutting Vehicles“ a testing methodology for disturbances from spray is presented. It introduces a novel lightweight and configurable spray setup alongside an evaluation scheme to assess the disturbances caused by spray. This will help increase  driving safety in adverse weather conditions. The third publication “Towards threat metric evaluation in complex urban scenarios“ presents a first modeling and conformance testing approach for criticality metrics in urban scenarios, where lanes are often not explicitly defined. All three papers therefore take an important step towards safe autonomous driving.
